Our family of craftspeople have been handmaking sofas in our Lancashire workshop for four decades. Now, as employee-owners, we're deepening our commitment to exceptional furniture making, preserving traditional skills, and nurturing the next generation of artisans

We build each frame from scratch using seasoned beech hardwood, creating the perfect backbone for your sofa.

We meticulously engineer the springs and evenly balance the padding, so the seat you sink into will be super comfortable.

We hand cut the leather from full hides and work with this beautiful natural material to reveal its unique characteristics.

Or stitch sumptuously soft fabrics to accentuate their natural weave.

We sink each button deeply for comfort and that distinctive Chesterfield look, and we individually hand tack each stud.

There’s probably an easier way to make sofas, but it’s not the Saxon way.

It’s what’s inside that counts

A quality piece of furniture always starts with the frame. We like to keep control of everything we do, so each frame is made in our workshop.

We craft them from sustainably sourced and seasoned beech hardwood. A wonderful straight grained timber with few knots, so it won’t warp or twist over time.

Joints are dowelled traditionally, with wood that’s on show stained and polished to bring out its natural grain.

Are you sitting comfortably?

That’s because we’ve got the padding just right. We use a combination of different fillings to achieve the perfect balance between firm and soft.

It also helps keep your sofa in great shape for today and tomorrow.

Our sofas will never have a saggy bottom

That’s because the suspension at its heart gives it lasting support and a nice bounce.

Different sofa shapes work best with different kinds of engineering, so we choose between an interwoven elastabelt system, metal serpentine springs or coiled springs, to put a lasting spring in your sofa.

Small details make great sofas

Let’s talk buttons and studs, iconic details so synonymous with the Chesterfield style.

All our buttons are hand sunk for neatness and longevity. Creating the iconic diamond tufting effect that keeps the padding in place and creates extra cushioning.

Each stud is positioned by hand and you can choose from a variety of finishes to suit your taste.
